Southampton are up and running in the new Premier League season following their first win of the season. The Saints secure their first three points in the new Premier League campaign thanks to the slender win over Leeds United. Southampton didn’t win any of their first seven league games of the new season before they played hosts to Leeds United at the St. Mary’s Stadium in one of the round eight games played on Saturday.
Albanian international striker Armando Broja proved to be the man who made the difference for Southampton as they recorded a big win over the Whites.Broja scored the only goal of the game to give Southampton a 1-0 win over a depleted Leeds United side.Broja is on loan at the South Coast club from Premier League leaders Chelsea having joined on a season-long loan deal this summer.
Southampton have played well generally since the start of the season and have been involved in more draws and defeats until the Leeds United game.The Saints were the better team and they finally got their reward eight minutes into the second half throughthe aforementioned Broja off the assist from winger Nathan Redmond.
Albanian national team player Broja was ineligible for the last league game at the home of Chelsea due to the terms of his loan contract. He was missing for the game which ended in a 3-1 win for Chelsea against 10-man Southampton. The Saints conceded two late goals thanks in part to the red card given to midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
Broja missed the Chelsea game as revealed earlier and he was handed a start for the Leeds United game. The Albanian attacker was the best player on the pitch before he was replaced by Theo Walcott. Broja was subbed off for Theo Walcott to a standing ovation from the Southampton fans. On his part, Theo Walcott played the final nine minutes as he made his second appearance since returning from injury.
The win over Leeds United ensured that Southampton moved above their opponents and Watford into 15th spot on the league standings.
